Ford Figo to be Exported in 50 International Markets by year-end

India made Ford Figo is currently exported to 34 different nations. However, Ford India is now looking forward to accelerate export of Figo to 50 nations. Moreover, the company has also laid the foundation of Sanand manufacturing facility to expand its production operations.

 March 23, 2012: The subsidiary of Ford, Ford India on Thursday made an announcement of its aim to speed-up the export of Figo hatchback to the markets of 50 different nations by the end of 2012. The India made Figo is currently exported to 34 international    markets.

Ford Figo has been the favourite car in the export markets. Alongside the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Ford’s integrated manufacturing facility in Sanand, an official of the company said that about 2,389 units of Figo have been exported by the company this month including to a new market – Lebonan.

“We are exporting Figo to Mexico, Caribbean, UAE, and parts of North Africa,” said Mr. Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director of Ford India. “The vast majority goes to similar markets like India, as they too need small cars like India does.”

Apart from being exported to South Africa and Nepal, the Ford Figo hatch is also exported to nations such as Angola, Bermuda, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Mr. Boneham said that the company has already reached to 34 different countries for exporting Figo and aims to export to 50 nations by the year end. He also added that the markets of the other 16 countries which have been aimed for exporting Figo are similar to the international markets where Figo is currently exported.

On Thursday, the foundation stone for $1 billion manufacturing facility was laid down. With the capacity to produce 2.40 lakh cars and 2.70 lakh engines yearly, Sanand facility is expected to become functional by early 2014 and create 5,000 jobs.
